New Toy - with Update

Enjoy a moment of Junior's new toy, a rope bone/giant tennis ball combination. He took to it right away, smacking himself on the face with the ball a few times, even going to investigate it after I tossed it back into his stall. We'll see how long he stays this interested....

UPDATE - I went to ride tonight and didn't see his toy anywhere on the floor of his stall. Then I found it.... it his water bucket. I took it out and he came right over and took it away from me and put it back in his bucket. While I had him tied to groom/tack I pulled it out and set it on the ledge. After the ride when I untacked him he grabbed the rope again and put it back in his bucket.... oooooookaaaaaaaay. So I guess he still likes it. Puppypony.

  1. He did seem to really be enjoying that! Is he naturally a "mouthy" sort of guy?

  2. His is compulsively mouthy. He tries to have his mouth on me at all times, licking or just lipping. It's one of the reasons I don't know if we'll ever be able to do showmanship! We're working on the boundaries for his obsession. He doesn't bite, but if I ever feel his teeth he gets a strong reprimand, or if he tries to take a hold of my jacket or something that's crossing the line. When he's being affectionately mouthy I think it's cute and sweet and makes me feel loved, but if he hasn't had equine socialization for a few days (too wet to turn out, for example) he gets impolite and pushy about it and I end up swatting him away. He's learning...and I'm learning how to read him and how to be more consistent. This is one of the reasons I'm not leaning towards the cribbing as a medical condition (such as Ulcers) because he is just ALWAYS mouthing things. I have pictures of him with all kinds of stuff in his mouth. He's a lot like a puppy!

  3. That's adorable! Where did you get it from? I think my goofy young gelding would love one too.

  4. Kristina, I got it at Petsmart. They had lots of sizes and had a horse sized ball with a rope but I didn't want him to lose an eye or hit ME with that size. The next toy will be my big detergent bottle (once it's empty) tied to the wall.
